Sungard AS leverages its recovery experience to design, build and run production environments that are resilient and available. Sungard AS: In Need of a Financial Revival
Sungard AS was amid a financial restructuring and employee downsizing prior to its sale to 11:11 Systems. In addition to the financial pressures, their ERP (EBS) and underlying Oracle database were all end-of-life and required an upgrade. During 2021-2022, Sungard AS was experiencing a financial downturn, placing extreme pressure on IT to find areas of cost savings. As a result, Sungard AS engaged Centroid to perform a system-wide analysis of the existing ERP platforms and underlying technology stack.
Determine the best course of action
The CIO of Sungard AS instructed Centroid to perform an ROI analysis of upgrading and modernizing their ERP (EBS). The analysis revealed that upgrading and modernizing Sungard AS’ EBS blew away the costs associated with a full-blown migration to Microsoft Dynamics. Centroid was able to design and engineer an upgrade path for both the ERP and databases utilizing OCI (both PaaS & IaaS). With the help of Oracle Support and Maintenance teams, Centroid negotiated a reduction of unnecessary EBS licenses and a roadmap to drop the underlying technology licenses once the OCI PaaS environment was established. These solutions provided a vehicle for time and labor savings for both physical server infrastructure as well as for financial restructuring of legacy Oracle license contracts.

challenge
Amid financial restructuring and employee downsizing prior to its sale to 11:11 Systems, Sungard AS’ ERP (EBS) and Oracle databases were all end of life and required an upgrade.
solution
Centroid was able to design and engineer an upgrade path for both the ERP and databases utilizing OCI (both PaaS & IaaS). Centroid also was able to optimize EBS licenses and restructure contracts
results
The project provided significant net cost savings of almost $500k per year and no business operation disruptions.
We strive for customer success
Through license optimization and contract restructuring, Centroid was able to save Sungard AS the equivalent of the entire OCI project to include all the UCC credits and set/migration costs of the OCI move while also affording the fastest production of their mission-critical ERP. Additionally, the project provided significant net cost savings of almost $500K per year and no business operation disruptions. Due to the rapid speed of OCI production and performance, Centroid successfully completed a 2nd phase to migrate Sungard AS’ legacy Exadata to OCI which went live in March 2023 with an additional 20-25% growth of OCI consumption.
