What is Oracle Transportation Management (OTM)?

Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) is a cloud-based transportation management system (TMS) designed to help companies manage their logistics and transportation operations. It is a software solution developed by Oracle and is part of their supply chain management (SCM) product suite. 

With its comprehensive suite of features, OTM allows organizations to plan, execute, and settle transportation operations efficiently and effectively. It supports multiple modes of transportation, such as truckload, less than truckload (LTL), parcel, ocean, and air, and integrates with other Oracle SCM products such as Oracle Global Trade Management, Oracle Warehouse Management, and Oracle Logistics Execution. 

By automating transportation processes and providing real-time visibility into transportation operations, OTM helps organizations reduce transportation costs, make informed decisions, and improve customer satisfaction. Additionally, as a cloud-based solution, OTM provides customers with easy access to their transportation management data through a single platform. 

Database Replication Enablement for OTM Cloud Service 

However, as OTM is hosted on the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) product, customers do not have direct access to the underlying databases. To access OTM data, customers can use external resources such as XML, CSV, and REST, but these methods do not provide real-time data. To overcome this limitation, customers can use the OCI GoldenGate and Data Replication Service to replicate OTM data to the OCI Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), providing real-time data that can be further integrated with data lakes, data warehouses, and lakehouses. 

This service combines the Database replication functionality of OGG (Oracle Golden Gate) and the data of OTM. It leverages OCI Marketplace/OCI GoldenGate Service to store the replicated data in a Database for reporting purposes. All components are in the Cloud. 

Why is OTM Data Needed? 

OTM data is leveraged for real-time data consolidation to On-Premises/multi cloud from OTM for Datawarehouse / DataLake / Business Analytics and data science projects. 

The OTM database is used to extract the real time data and push for reporting. 

Components Required for Data Replication from OTM

• • • OCI GoldenGate PaaS Service / GoldenGate Marketplace VM (Virtual Machines)
    • OCI Database DBaaS / ExaCS: Used to hold OTM data as a staging database
    • OTM Data Replication SKU: This SKU enablement required for SaaS Cloud Operation team to enable GoldenGate extract and send the data to PaaS Compartment
    • Block Storage
    • Object Storage OTM

All components of this solution are in the cloud, providing organizations with the convenience and scalability of a cloud-based solution. This eliminates the need for expensive hardware and reduces the overhead associated with managing and maintaining an on-premises solution.
