In one of our upcoming sessions, Kasey Parker, Enterprise Architect, will be presenting “Effective Use of Oracle’s Real-Time SQL Monitor.” This session will be directed to anyone who writes SQL against an Oracle database.
A new real time SQL execution tuning and troubleshooting tool called SQL Monitor was introduced in 11g and has been enhanced for 12c. Many call this the best tool ever created by Oracle to tune and troubleshoot SQL on Oracle databases. Surprisingly, many still do not use the tool. Those who do often miss the best part of the tool, the active XML SQL Monitor report, which merges timings and many other statistics together in a dynamic format.
The report also does not have to be accessible by just DBAs, but can easily be made accessible to developers and SQL writers without compromising security. In this session, we will show different options of accessing the report, how to interpret the report and demonstrate scripts and functions that can easily make the report available to all who write SQL against the database - not just DBAs. We will also look into new enhancements made for SQL monitor in Oracle 12c.
After attending this session, you will be able to:
- Understand what SQL Monitor is and how to use it effectively
- Understand how to make SQL Monitor available to developers, as well as DBAs
- Interpret the SQL Monitor report
